I was talking to an old friend about a situation in his software startup company that was trying to sell its offering to a potential customer. He happens to be a seasoned sales professional back home in India.
Some time ago, I was working on a problem with a company outside of my work. The place was warm - squeezed into my cold Nordic winter day in December. In walked a tall Nordic gentleman who happened to run a startup.
About 13 or so years ago, a well-known company called Apple released what essentially changed the world forever: the iPhone. At the time, Palm CEO Ed Colligan doubted some computer maker was going to, in Vox's words, "just waltz in and eat his lunch."
As boundaries between sectors get further blurred by technology, which democratizes access to services -- and as user behavior dictates the design of services, which stress-tests organizations' prevailing strategies to create value -- I'm seeing that competition is no longer defined only by traditional dimensions such as differentiation, cost leadership, and so on.
Sajal Singh is an expert contributor at Forbes and a member of Forbes’ Councils, and routinely shares his expert insights on the intersection of business and digital. He also contributes to other published Q&A panels next to other experts.
He serves a Digital Partner, Nordics for TATA Sweden for their flagship innovation accelerator in Europe.
